Vintage Wings of Canada Museum
Those who have yet to visit the Vintage Wings of Canada Museum at the Ottawa/Gatineau Airport (CYND) are missing a great museum and city. Ottawa is simply an amazing city to those of us in the lower 48, and the food and city architecture are a wonderful surprise. As for the museum, the hangar is superb and designed to have a period feel with wooden roof (inside a modern steel shell) and vintage dimensions.
The 23,000-square-foot hangar houses a unique and meticulously restored and maintained collection of fighters and trainers that are often used to support the museum’s educational and outreach programs. Having visited this place myself, I was blown away with the dedication and skill of all of those who place this museum’s operation in a class of its own.
The cockpit- and aircraft-specific training days are trips I would love to take to learn about favorite types from some of the best authorities in the business. Further, the website and its extended feature articles are superb. For example, this story on the Vampires of Las Vegas: an amazing research article on a uniquely American warbird entrepreneur.
