From the Archives – Fifty Years Ago
By Ian Brown, EAA 657159, Editor, Bits and Pieces, Board Member, EAA Canada Council
July 2021 – This letter from EAA Canada President Herb Cunningham, from Scarborough, Ontario, is fascinating. It recounts a letter received by Paul Poberezny objecting to the $2.00 additional membership fee charged to Canadian members that was passed back to EAAC for operating expenses. The writer apparently did not feel “Canadian” in the same way as his fellow citizens did on the eastern side of the Rockies. Your Canadian Council has no specific source of funds and we hope that you appreciate your volunteer council members and the lack of a membership premium for Canadians. Today's council covers the Maritimes all the way through the Prairies to British Columbia. We do feel that we represent ALL Canadian EAA members and we hope you agree.
You may be interested to know that EAA HQ bears all the costs associated with our tent at AirVenture as well as any travel and living expenses for any meetings we may have during the year. No other country benefits in this way.
If you have any feedback on this we'd welcome hearing from you. It would certainly be beneficial if we had some funds to pay for representation with Transport Canada, for example, but then someone would probably complain. Comments, positive or otherwise, can be sent to Newsletter.EAACC@gmail.com.
