EAA Helps Member Obtain Medical

March 2, 2017 - When Doug Gray, EAA 1094065, was preparing to make his first solo flight this winter, he and his flight instructor began to worry about the validity of his medical certificate due to previous confusing communications with the FAA. To resolve the question, he decided to call EAA’s government advocacy team for help.

Tom Charpentier, EAA’s government relations director, was able to get in touch with the regional flight surgeon’s office on Doug’s behalf and learned that some of the paperwork needed to document a prior medical issue was missing. That information was relayed back to Doug, who in turn worked with EAA to help get the necessary documents to the FAA.

Within a week of contacting EAA, Doug’s medical certificate was cleared and Tom contacted him on a Sunday afternoon to share the good news.

“Everybody at EAA is very professional and makes you feel like if you have a question or make inquiries that there’s going to be follow through on it,” Doug said.

Although his solo ended up getting delayed by a fuel leak, Doug said he plans to reschedule the big day for the near future. EAA wishes him the best of luck.
