Guardian Avionics Shipping MFD 650 for Experimentals

July 15, 2015 - Guardian Avionics is now shipping its Multi-Function Display system, the MFD 650, for installation in experimental aircraft panels. The MFD 650 shares information a pilot has access to with his passengers while recording flight data that can be stored in the cloud.

Two to six iOS Apple devices can connect to the MFD 650 via Bluetooth and display information through the Guardian Avionics I-MFD App, available through the App Store. The app automatically records flight time, takeoffs and landings, and engine and flight data, stores the information during flight, and automatically uploads it to the cloud for post-flight analysis or conveyance to the pilot’s service mechanic. This data recording feature is beneficial in the event of mechanical problems, said Ash Vij, president of Guardian Avionics

“It’s intended to give real-time information to the pilot and passengers in GA aircraft,” Vij said. “This way adults and kids will all have situational awareness and be able to track the progress of the flight.”

When connected to a Garmin GPS and an electronic engine monitor, the MFD 650 also allows passengers to view synthetic reality, a moving map, engine data, or the pilot logbook. It also monitors cockpit carbon monoxide levels and provides two USB outlets to charge cellphones or other electronics.

The MFD 650 can be mounted in the panel. An alternate version, the MFD 850, can be mounted remotely behind the panel.
