Harrison Ford Scholarship Recipient Solos

August 24, 2015 - Jordan Paulson, EAA 1083097 and recipient of the 2015 Harrison Ford Scholarship administered by EAA, completed his first solo flight on August 15 out of Hartford Municipal Airport.

“I cannot express with words the joy (and nerves) that being able to fly an airplane by myself brought me,” said Jordan, who flew his solo in a Piper Cub. “Ever since I was little I have only dreamed of being in command of an aircraft and flying, but money always held me back.”

The flight training scholarship is awarded to youth interested in aviation for EAA Air Academy, flight training, or academic tuition awards at whatever level the need is that exists.

Jordan, who is 18 years old, interned for EAA in 2014 and was the youngest person hired to refuel airplanes by Orion Flight Services during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2013.

He has plans to attend the University of North Dakota this fall to study aviation management and eventually become a commercial pilot.

Now that he has completed his solo, Jordan said he is looking forward to getting his pilot certificate and flying cross-country.

“Many people have told me that the sky’s the limit for your dreams and aspirations,” Jordan said. “To which I like responding, ‘That is exactly where I plan on taking them.’”
