Scott Burgess

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Dr. Burgess' 34+ years of aviation experience includes both military and civil aviation organizations. He is a qualified pilot and instructor in seven military and civilian helicopters, a fighter jet (as WSO), and numerous sUAS. He began with ERAU as a graduate student, then at the Prescott Campus as the Army ROTC commander and authored their rotorcraft academic and flight program, chairing for 5 years. Scott moved to the Worldwide Campus in 2007 and has developed or assisted in dozens of academic courses and programs. Dr. Burgess conducted numerous UAS and manned flight training concept developments, flight training, academics, and accreditation visits for entities in the U.S., Asia and the Middle East. Since 2010, Burgess has worked closely with the International and US Helicopter Safety Team’s to enhance rotorcraft safety globally. He serves as Secretary for the UAS Committee with the Helicopter Association International. Burgess is a graduate of Oregon State University (BS), US Army Command and General Staff College, USAF Air Command and Staff College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (MAS), and Northcentral University (Ph.D.). His research disciplines reside in aviation operations, helicopter and sUAS safety, and unmanned aircraft systems.
