Volunteer Resources for AirVenture Oshkosh
June 2015 - Over the past 60-plus years, EAA’s annual gathering has evolved from a small meeting of aircraft and aviators into a grand, weeklong celebration filled with exciting, amazing events known as EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration. As volunteers, our goal is to ensure our 500,000 guests have a great experience while here, and there are plenty of resources to help achieve that. Here are some of the best ones.
AirVenture Website
The event’s website provides information on features and attractions, news and multimedia, scheduling, and other resources to help people plan their trip to Oshkosh. Fly-in information helps prepare for your arrival to AirVenture. Review the site here www.eaa.org/airventure to discover all the information it has to offer.
AirVenture Mobile App
Last year EAA launched a new mobile app to provide a wealth of information conveniently on mobile devices. Our IT staff is putting the finishing touches on this year’s version, so be on the lookout for more information soon on when the updated AirVenture 2015 mobile app becomes available.
Map
A map of the grounds is available to all volunteers to help assist an attendee on where things are located. Keep a copy of the map handy because you will likely refer to it several times a day. Here are a few things to keep in mind when using the map: Its orientation is as one would look from the main gate. That means north is to the left of the map instead of at the top of the map. The map can also be found in the AirVenture Visitors Guide.
AirVenture Visitors Guide
The Visitors Guide (known in prior years as the Info Guide) is the calendar for AirVenture Oshkosh. The Visitors Guide has everything you need to know about what’s going on every day at any given time at AirVenture. Along with resource information, visitor services information is listed at the beginning of the publication. There’s also complete information about the shopping tents, food stands, exhibitors and their locations, detailed area maps, and a daily events schedule. These are available to all volunteers as well as all attendees.
AirVenture Today
As publication deadlines force early commitments to schedules, some changes will inevitably take place as the event approaches. A great resource for the most up-to-date daily schedules is the free AirVenture Today newspaper. Volunteers distribute the paper to newspaper boxes located throughout the grounds by 7 a.m. daily, plus they’re handed out to arriving guests at the admissions gates throughout the day.
Mobile Device Alerts
To receive Features & Attractions alerts (maximum eight per day) via text message on your mobile device, simply text OSHFUN to 69050. Social Media
EAA loves to share what’s going on in the organization throughout the year and especially during AirVenture. Follow all the convention highlights on social media by using the hashtag #OSH15, and be sure to connect with us directly on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
EAA Radio
EAA radio is live at 1210 AM and 96.5 FM, as well as online at EAARadio.net and via the AirVenture app. Listen for information on features and events, as well as updates on the weather and other important visitor information.
These are just some of the many resources available for volunteers to assist attendees during AirVenture. Smile, have fun, and enjoy yourself at Oshkosh!
