EAA RUNWAY 5K RAISES NEARLY $15,000 FOR OSHKOSH’S CHRISTINE ANN DOMESTIC ABUSE SERVICES

Annual AirVenture run/walk earns record amount for local charity in 2014

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (Sept. 30, 2014) — The annual Runway 5K run/walk during EAA AirVenture 2014 raised a record amount to help a local charitable organization, as nearly $15,000 was donated to the Oshkosh-based Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., agency.

The check was presented to Susan Traska, Christine Ann’s Development and Marketing Director, at the EAA AirVenture Museum on Sept. 23. The Runway 5K welcomes AirVenture attendees and local residents to enjoy the world’s largest fly-in in a unique way, as the race’s route winds through the thousands of aircraft parked along the flight line at Wittman Regional Airport.

“This was the 10th year of the Runway 5K and this year’s record for fundraising is a tribute to EAA members, AirVenture attendees, and local residents who came together for this fun event,” said Kelly Zanders, EAA’s event coordinator for the race. “Most important, the proceeds will directly benefit those in the Oshkosh area who most need domestic abuse services here in EAA’s hometown.”

The Runway 5K kicked off a full day at AirVenture that was available for all race participants, who received full-day admission to the grounds as part of their registration. The Aug. 2 activities included an afternoon air show that featured the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and historic World War II aircraft, an evening concert, and a spectacular night air show and fireworks display.

“Christine Ann’s important work here in Oshkosh is now better known by the thousands of aviation enthusiasts who come to our community each year,” Traska said. “With domestic abuse highly visible on a national level right now, the need for our services becomes greater. The funds raised through this race will help us reach more people with these urgently required programs.”

Launched in 1984, Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) not for profit agency serving individuals and families in Winnebago and Green Lake Counties who are struggling with the devastating effects of domestic abuse. The agency is committed to ending the cycle of violence by providing safety, support and advocacy to all abuse victims, as well as cultivating community awareness through collaborative education and prevention programs.
