VAA Chapter 25 Continues Successful VMC Programming Online

By Jim Sobolewski, EAA 346198, VAA Chapter 25 President

April 2021 – Our Vintage chapter in Northern California has been hobbled, like most of the other chapters throughout the country — no fly-outs or Young Eagles flights. However, one continued bright spot is our VMC Club.

We started the program in January of last year, and had a great turnout of local pilots until the pandemic hit and closed down in-person meetings. Undeterred, Steve Lightstone, EAA 1140462, our VMC coordinator and safety guru, didn't miss a beat. He simply moved our monthly meetings to Zoom!

Since then, we've covered a variety of topics, from inadvertent entry into IMC conditions to fire in the cockpit. The meetings have been well received, and we have had pilots from all over the state and with all skills levels check in for an hour of valuable discussion and information. After all, it is better to talk about a potential problem on the ground with other pilots than to think about it for the first time in the air.
