Countdown to Light Sport Category Certification Updates

AirVenture 2026 MOSAIC Forums and Exhibitors

MOSAIC is done. After more than a decade of work by EAA, the FAA, and numerous others, MOSAIC (Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification) is now a final rule. A generation after the creation of the original Sport Pilot and Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA) rules, we now welcome Sport Pilot 2.0 and Next-Gen Light Sport. On October 22, 2025, about three-quarters of the general aviation fleet was made accessible to sport pilots and those exercising sport pilot privileges. On July 24, 2026, new and modern aircraft can begin entering the fleet with minimal certification costs.

Welcome to a new era in recreational aviation.
