Young Eagles World’s Largest Logbook Updated
By EAA Staff
EAA has updated the Young Eagles World’s Largest Logbook, which is a wonderful resource for Young Eagles volunteers and youth participants. This logbook is your source of truth for Young Eagles records.
To improve the accuracy and usability of the tool, EAA has spent the past few months overhauling the functionality of the tool. There are three look-up functions available, with the following features now included:
- Search by Young Eagle Name
- No Changes — Youths can search their flight records to review their pilot, aircraft type, and host chapter.
- Search by Pilot Name
- A date range filter has been added, so pilots can review the exact number of Young Eagles they flew in a given time frame. This is great for reviewing annual flight records.
- The results for each pilot now lists all the chapters credited, not just the pilot’s primary chapter. Pilots can now review the exact number of Young Eagles credited to each chapter they support.
- Data is now exportable, so pilots can save their results on their local network. Note, the results will not include any personal information for the youths flown, only the total number of youths flown.
- Search by Chapter
- A date range filter has been added, so chapters can review the exact number of Young Eagles flown by the chapter in a given time frame. This is great for reviewing annual flight records
- The results have been broadened to include any pilot that has flown for the designated chapter, not just those pilots that are members of the chapter. Each pilot record will list all the chapters credited, not just the pilot’s primary chapter. This will give the chapter an exact report on Young Eagles credits earned in the specified time frame, and which pilots earned those credits.
- Data is now exportable, so chapters can save results on a local network. This will provide the chapter with the ability to recognize the chapter’s most active Young Eagles pilots, as well as track annual flight records.
While these updates will prove to be useful moving forward, it is important to note that EAA switched to a new database around 2011/2012. Pre-2012 Young Eagles flight records are stored in a legacy database that is not integrated with the current system. Because the two systems cannot be merged or cross-referenced, pilots’ flight records will indicate “Unknown Chapter” for most pre-2012 flights. However, the total number of Young Eagles flown by the chapter, per EAA’s primary database, remains accurate.
