From the Archives — 50 Years Ago, EAA Chapters in Action

By Ian Brown, Editor

March 2020 - You can read the whole article here, including pictures. Here are just a few comments.

Fifty years ago Chapter 299 was a very new chapter. They were having trouble with getting members to attend meetings, commenting that they had difficulty dealing with some of the members working shifts.

Two of the members, R.C. Cline and E.R. Stanley, author of the report, were building Maranda Hawks. By all accounts they were making fairly rapid progress.

Of interest to me was that the club offered to take pictures of members' projects since they had photographic development equipment. How times have changed.

Also under construction at the time of the report were a Jodel, a Stinson, the rebuild of a Nimro Sport, a Pietenpol, a Cvjetkovic, and a Corben Baby Ace.

Now that's a busy chapter.

In the same issue it was mentioned that the US National Weather Service had been in operation for 100 years and they planned to celebrate that fact in Oshkosh. That means that they will celebrate 150 years ago, this year.
