Young Eagles Preflight Idea
By Ian Brown, EAA 657159, Editor, Board member, Canadian Council membership
April 5, 2022 – I saw this great idea in a chapter newsletter from Margie Clark, the president of EAA Chapter 55 in Mason, Michigan. It would help to speed up Young Eagles rallies and allows the chapter to do a better job of educating the candidates and their parents.
“If you have a plane but don’t necessarily want to fly the youth I would like someone to do the static display and run through the preflight process with the groups before they fly. It’s important that we explain all the safety steps that are taken in preparation of flying. This is one less step the pilots that are flying the youth need to do once they have their assigned flight. The parents have been reassured as well by listening in and asking questions along with the youth.”
How about doing that with a blown-up version of your preflight checklist taped to the side of the demo static aircraft? It would let people stand and read it for as long as they like.
