EAA Skyscape Theater Royale 2020 Movie Lineup

January 9, 2020 - Travel back in time and experience the Golden Age of cinema at EAA's Skyscape Theater Royale, a series of classic aviation film screenings. Each film begins at 6:30 p.m. in the museum's Skyscape Theater, an intimate setting with a 50-foot screen and state-of-the-art projection and sound systems. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and is subject to capacity. Screenings are free for EAA members and $5 for nonmembers.

    January 2 — China Clipper
    This aviation classic was based on the true story behind the forming of Pan American Airways. It stars Pat O'Brien, Humphrey Bogart, and Beverly Roberts, and the screenplay was written by Frank "Spig" Wead, a former naval aviator and prolific screenwriter.

    February 6 — Memphis Belle (documentary)
    William Wyler’s groundbreaking documentary focuses on the crew of the B-17 Flying Fortress Memphis Belle as they prepare to execute a strategic bombing mission over Germany. This restored version presents the classic film in unprecedented clarity.

    March 5 — Amelia
    This 2009 biopic stars Hilary Swank as famed pilot Amelia Earhart, and also features Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor. The real stars, however, are the antique and classic airplanes that were assembled to lend authenticity to the production.

    April 2 — Beyond the Powder
    This documentary film follows the female pilots of the 2014 Air Race Classic as they make their way across the country, while telling the story of the first women's cross-country air race of 1929, also known as the Powder Puff Derby. The film's producers, Adam and Kara White, will be on hand to present.

    May 7 — Zero Hour
    If the story of ex-military pilot Ted Stryker having to save the day aboard an airliner after the pilot is stricken with food poisoning sounds familiar, it's probably because you've seen the movie Airplane! That comedy classic is nearly a shot-for-shot remake of Zero Hour, which makes the original that much more interesting.

    June 4 — Midway
    Director Roland Emmerich, best known for films like Independence Day and the 1998 remake of Godzilla, sets his sights on the Pacific theater of World War II in this updated retelling of the titular pivotal battle.

    August 6 — Fatman and Little Boy
    Dwight Schultz, best known as "Howling Mad" Murdock in the classic '80s television series The A-Team, joins the legendary Paul Newman in this 1989 film based on the true story of the Manhattan Project during WWII.

    September 3 — Airport
    Based on the bestselling novel by Arthur Hailey, and starring Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin, and George Kennedy, this 1970 picture is the granddaddy of all aviation disaster films.

    October 1 — Airwolf
    The pilot that kicked off the popular 1980s television series, this film stars Jan Michael Vincent, Ernest Borgnine, and a modified Bell 222 helicopter that has to be retrieved after its designer defects to Libya.

    November 5 — The Lafayette Escadrille
    This new documentary film presents the story of the Lafayette Escadrille, a squadron formed in 1916 under French command that was largely made up of American volunteers who joined before the U.S. entered WWI.

    December 3 — The Rocketeer
    Based on an acclaimed series of comic books by legendary artist Dave Stevens, this Disney classic stars Billy Campbell as a stunt pilot who stumbles across a powerful rocket pack, along with Jennifer Connelly and Adam Arkin.
