EAA Submits Comments Addressing Proposed Changes at Maryland Airport
January 24, 2019 - EAA submitted comments to the commissioners of St. Mary’s County, Maryland, last week addressing a set of proposed airport documents. These documents include airport rules, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and minimum standards for businesses for the St. Mary’s County Regional Airport. In EAA’s opinion, several restrictions on independent maintenance providers and designated self-maintenance areas were too burdensome and went beyond FAA policy set forth in the Airport Compliance Manual (Order 5190.6B) and the FAA’s 2016 Hangar Use Policy.
The comments submitted by EAA headquarters were in addition to and in support of comments submitted by EAA Chapter 478, which is based at St. Mary’s.
“Our advocacy team works with members and chapters across the country to ensure that airport policies and regulations are crafted to support the general aviation community,” said Lily Johnson, EAA’s government advocacy specialist. “St. Mary’s is a great example of how we are able to support our chapters and members as they face challenges in their local areas.”
