EAA Participating in Memphis Belle Rollout

March 1, 2018 - EAA will have its B-17 Aluminum Overcast in Dayton, Ohio, on May 17-20 to participate in the opening of the Memphis Belle exhibit at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. The display will be centered around the restored B-17 Memphis Belle, which was the first U.S. Army Air Forces heavy bomber to return to the U.S. after completing 25 missions over Europe during World War II.

Aluminum Overcast, and the B-17 Yankee Lady from the Yankee Air Museum in Belleville, Michigan, will be part of the outdoor aircraft display at the museum on May 17-18 during the exhibit’s opening events. On May 19-20, the EAA bomber will move to Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport for a full tour stop, including flight experience opportunities aboard the legendary B-17.

As part of the weekend’s events, Chris Henry of the EAA Aviation Museum staff will be presenting his B-17 history program for the Air Force Museum Foundation’s Living History Film Series, which will also include Memphis Belle film producer Catherine Wyler, on May 17 and 19. Henry’s presentation weaves the B-17’s renowned history with personal stories of the veterans who flew combat missions aboard the aircraft.
