EAA-Supported Shutdown Bill Approved by Committee
March 28, 2019 - H.R. 1108, a bill supported by EAA and the broader general aviation community that would allow the FAA to draw from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund in the event of a future government shutdown, has passed through the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and now moves to the House floor for a vote.
The government shutdown earlier this year resulted in air traffic controllers and other FAA personnel working without pay while many others performing critical functions were furloughed, something that H.R. 1108 seeks to avoid were another shutdown to occur. Additionally, an EAA-supported amendment introduced by Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO) was adopted by the Committee to increase the amount of available funds from the Airport and Airways Trust Fund for airport capital improvements from $3.35 billion to $4 billion through fiscal year 2023.
EAA will continue to support this bill as it makes its way to the House floor and potentially to the Senate for consideration.
