EAA Chapter 939 Gets a Taste of Silver Screen Fame
February 20, 2013 - If you saw the new movie Safe Haven last weekend, you might have caught a glimpse of EAA Chapter 939's 2012 Independence Day parade float in the background.
The movie, based on a Nicolas Sparks novel, was filmed in the chapter's community of Southport, North Carolina, last summer, and although the film is not related to aviation, the town's annual Fourth of July paradewas recreated last August and used as the backdrop for several scenes.
The production company reached out to several local nonprofits, asking them to enter float ideas for filming, and the EAA Chapter 939 float depicting a re-created historical biplane was a hit.
The aviation float made the final cut and can be seen for approximately three seconds.
