Owner of Captain Drake’s Family Aerial Adventures LLC.  a specialty flight school located at 3S4 Illinois Valley Airport (Southern Oregon). Born and raised in Josephine County Oregon 1971.

My father Trooper Tom Emonds was a smokejumper based at the Siskiyou Smokejumper Base until its closing in 1981 I spent my early childhood living in the Jump base barracks building surrounded by my father’s friends and coworkers (pilots and jumpers) who collectively raised me. I’ve been inspired by these childhood heroes and have always been surrounded by aviation.

As a young man (1980’s-2000’s), flying ultralights off the Illinois valley airport, I dreamt of creating a specialty flight school here in the Illinois valley. I imagined how people would travel from states away to enjoy the beauty, history, and fantastic training environment unique to this special place. Well, it took me decades but, in the beginning of 2012, I finally achieved my certified flight instructor status and began training students.

Since that time, I have built quite an impressive resume of piloting and flight training history. Among my accomplishments to date are: 

Earning “gold seal” Certified flight instructor rated in both Airplane SEL and Rotorcraft Gyroplane. Specialty Aircraft examiner working with the FAA directly out of the (AFG-970 office) Oklahoma City.  I have designated pilot examiner authority for both fixed wing and rotorcraft categories (Sport pilot initial and CFI).

Logging several thousands of dual flight instruction hours given. Building a nationally known specialty flight school. Light Sport Repairman LSRM.

When I’m not training and testing clients at my own flight school here in Oregon, I’m often traveling the United States conducting practical tests and issuing pilot certificates for other flight schools and clients. Helping others live their aviation dreams is my passion.
