EAA AirVenture 2014 Selects Christine Ann Center to Benefit From Annual Runway 5K

Local domestic abuse services agency has helped thousands over 30 years

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. — (February 17, 2014) — The Oshkosh-based Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., agency will benefit from EAA’s Runway 5K Run/Walk that will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, during the final weekend of the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 fly-in. Christine Ann will receive all funds raised from the 5K.

For 10 years, EAA has partnered with local agencies for the Runway 5K, an event that not only brings together local fitness enthusiasts with those who attend AirVenture, but also directly benefits local charities. Over the past decade, more than 5,000 people have participated in the Runway 5K. In 2013, a record $12,000 was raised for charities dedicated to improving life in the Oshkosh area.

“The Runway 5K is not only a lot of fun during AirVenture, it shows our visitors how EAA is part of the Oshkosh community throughout the year,” said Kelly Zanders, EAA event coordinator for the race. “AirVenture has long been known as an event where Oshkosh-area residents are introduced to people from around the world, and those people get to know Oshkosh a little better. The Runway 5K does exactly that while also helping the community we call home.”

A team of Christine Ann staff and volunteers will join EAA in planning and coordinating the 5K race. The organizations share the responsibilities of hosting and managing the race. Participants receive daily admission to EAA AirVenture for Saturday, Aug. 2, including the night air show, as well as post-race food and a custom Runway 5K T-shirt. Parking for 5K participants on the AirVenture grounds is free for the day. Participants will have transportation available on EAA AirVenture grounds to and from the race. Registration for the race will open on or about March 1, 2014 at www.airventure.org/run.

“The work we do at Christine Ann is well known in the Oshkosh area, but the ability to tell our story to EAA visitors from around the world is a wonderful opportunity,” said Susan Traska, Development and Marketing Director of Christine Ann. “We thank EAA for its support and encourage local residents to join us for this unique event on August 2.”

Launched in 1984, Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) not for profit agency serving individuals and families in Winnebago and Green Lake Counties who are struggling with the devastating effects of domestic abuse. The agency is committed to ending the cycle of violence by providing safety, support and advocacy to all abuse victims, as well as cultivating community awareness through collaborative education and prevention programs.
