TWO FREE EVENTS HIGHLIGHT EAA AIRVENTURE MUSEUM ACTIVITIES OCTOBER 14 AND 16
Skyscape Theater Royale and Aviation Adventure Speaker Series each featured
EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (October 8, 2014) — Two free events open to the public will highlight events at the EAA AirVenture Museum during the week of October 13. These events provide an opportunity to discover more about aviation at the world-class aviation facility.
On Tuesday, October 14, the Skyscape Theater Royale movie series continues with the John Wayne classic “The Wings of Eagles,” which also features Maureen O’Hara and Dan Dailey. The 1957 film tells the story of Commander Frank “Spig” Wead, a reckless World War I naval aviator who was instrumental in advancing the cause of American air power.
The film begins at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s Skyscape Theater, located adjacent to the main lobby. The theater is an intimate setting with a 50-foot screen and state-of-the-art projection and sound systems. In keeping with the classic movie feel, free popcorn will also be available.
On Thursday, October 16, the Aviation Adventure Speaker Series continues with “The B-24 Over Europe” presentation in the museum’s Founders’ Wing. Doug Tomas will give an in-depth look at the B-24 bomber "Ready, Willing and Able" that was shot down over northern Italy in December of 1943 during World War II. Tomas’ great-great uncle was a flight engineer aboard the bomber. During correspondence with surviving crew members and a trip to Italy for a special dedication in 2011, the younger Tomas discovered some unexpected surprises, which he will share during the presentation.
The free Aviation Adventure Speaker Series evening begins at 7 p.m. It includes free admission to the museum and an opportunity to climb into the cockpit of a World War II aircraft immediately following the presentation.
Future free events at the EAA AirVenture Museum in the coming months include:
- November 11: Skyscape Theater Royale – “The Rocketeer” (1991)
- November 20: Aviation Adventure Speaker Series – “B-17: The Final Mission”
- December 6: Christmas in the Air museum open house
- December 9: Skyscape Theater Royale – “Captains of the Clouds” (1942)
