Chapter Success and a Ray Scholar's Unique Milestone

May 2020 – EAA Vintage Chapter 25 applied for the 2019 Ray Aviation Scholarship program. Unfortunately, the chapter was wait-listed for funding, along with 60 other chapters. To put together an even stronger application package in 2020, members of Vintage 25 made it their mission to improve their chapter's programming. Chapter leaders Stan Lawrence and Kim Owens were already key contributors to the chapter’s youth programs, and they took the lead on improving the chapter's effort to earn a scholarship slot.

In the span of a few months, leaders of the chapter traveled to EAA's Fall Chapter Leadership Academy, adopted a VMC Club, and assigned a technical counselor. Not only did the addition of these efforts improve the overall chapter offerings, the chapter also saw tremendous value in the new programs!

Due to the strides made in chapter programming, leadership training, and a great application form, Vintage 25 earned a 2020 Ray Aviation Scholarship slot. EAA was able to deliver this news over dinner following a Chapter Leadership Boot Camp in Sacramento, California. Since earning the slot, Vintage Chapter 25 nominated Tyler Pierson, an extremely deserving member of the chapter and active participant in the weekly aircraft build sessions. Tyler has since soloed, and his story is one you won't want to miss!
