September 2022

At the August membership meeting, EAA Chapter 939 in Oak Island, North Carolina, celebrated three of its scholars. Justin Endre, 2021 Ray Aviation scholar, completed his checkride on July 11, 2022; Emma Naef, 2022 Ray Aviation scholar, was awarded her scholarship on July 31, 2022, and Raymond Rooks, EAA Chapter 939 Private Pilot Scholar, was awarded the chapter scholarship on August 4, 2022.

Justin, who is 17 years old, completed his Ray Aviation Scholarship requirements in the 12 months allotted for this purpose. He is in his senior year of high school and the early college program. He plans to attend the Air Force Academy.

Sixteen-year-old Emma is home schooled and is in the early college program. She had flown about seven hours prior to getting the scholarship. Emma’s ultimate goal is to become a commercial airline pilot.

Raymond, who is 16 years old, is home schooled. The chapter’s scholarship is for $5,000 and he is working several jobs to pay for the remainder of the flight lessons. Raymond plans to move forward with his aviation career by going into the military, doing mission work, or becoming a commercial pilot.

Congratulations to these three well-deserving young people who we learned about through the Young Eagles program.
