Ray Scholar Applicants

This page is for candidates who were nominated by an EAA chapter to receive the EAA Ray Aviation Scholarship. Here, you will find the weblink to submit your formal Ray Scholar application to EAA for final review and approval.

NOTE: If you were not nominated by an EAA chapter to receive the Ray Aviation Scholarship, then do not apply on this webpage. The application below is for chapter-nominated scholar candidates only.

Instructions for New Scholar Applicants:

To access the Ray Scholar application, please click the button below. This will take you to the scholar application portal. Once there, click "Sign Up" and enter your email address. You will be asked to create a password. After this step, your account will be created, and you can log into the portal to complete your application.

Once you are logged in, follow the on-screen prompts. Make sure to click the green “Submit Scholar Application” button after your application is complete and your letter of recommendation has been uploaded.

After submitting your Ray Scholar application, EAA will review the application. Your EAA chapter will be notified via email of your award status within 30 days of your submission.


Ray Scholar Application

To help you complete the application, EAA has put together a checklist of information you will need to submit. Please have the following information ready:

  • EAA number (if applicable).
  • Date the applicant plans to begin training (must be within 30 days of scholarship start date, i.e. the last day of the month the scholar is approved by EAA)
  • How the scholar plans to stay engaged with the chapter and fulfill volunteer service hours.
  • Certification desired (glider, sport, or private).
  • Copy of FAA or Transport Canada medical certificate (private pilot applicants only).
  • Copy of student pilot certificate.
  • Information regarding the flight training location the applicant will use if accepted (name, type of aircraft, website, etc.).
  • Where the applicant plans to complete ground school (if applicable).
  • Copy of FAA or Transport Canada written exam score (if already completed).
  • Contingency plan should training cost more than the amount of money awarded.
  • Copy of most recent page in logbook (if applicable).
  • Total amount of other flight training awards received from other groups (EAA chapter, Civil Air Patrol, etc.).
  • Email of individual who will be writing the applicant’s letter of recommendation (teacher, CFI, or chapter member).
  • In the applicant's own words, a 150-250 word explanation on why they should be selected for this award.
