Keeping 121.5 MHz ELTs Legal

The FCC has repeatedly attempted to overstep its bounds of managing frequency spectrum and enter aviation safety regulation by threatening to ban the use of 121.5MHz ELTs, which would effectively force the immediate conversion of the entire GA fleet to 406MHz ELTs.

121.5MHz ELTs are not longer manufactured and EAA maintains that the fleet will transition to the newer technology ELTs through replacement and attrition. There is little evidence to support that a technology change equates to the survivability rate of aircraft accidents.

EAA will continue fighting against the FCC’s ill-advised and expensive overreach.
