Finding Acceptable Unleaded Fuel for GA Fleet

EAA continues to work toward a sustainable unleaded replacement for 100LL, especially in light of recent environmental and economic challenges to the current leaded fuel.

EAA pioneered the certification and use of automotive gasoline in aircraft three decades ago. That program is available for use today but is significantly limited by the mandated use of ethanol in modern motor gasoline.

Today our work is focused on the Piston Aviation Fuels Initiative (PAFI), a joint FAA/industry program to identify and evaluate high-octane unleaded fuels and develop data necessary to transition the existing aircraft fleet to any new fuel.
