FAA Publishes NPRM on Mechanic Certification
Last week, the FAA published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, “Mechanic Certification: Inspection Rating and Recent Experience Requirements,” that would change the current inspection authorization (IA) to a newly created inspection rating (IR) for all certified mechanics currently holding an IA. Under the proposal, the inspection rating would carry many of the same privileges currently associated with an IA, but would eliminate the requirement for periodic renewal and expiration dates and instead rely on recent experience requirements to exercise the privileges associated with the inspection rating.
EAA’s advocacy team is currently reviewing the proposal and evaluating its potential impact on aircraft owners, maintainers, and the broader general aviation community. Additional information and analysis will be shared after AirVenture.
