FAA Airworthiness Concern Sheet: Remos GX Elevator Control Pushrod Failure

The FAA has published an airworthiness concern sheet (ACS) requesting additional information on abnormalities of the elevator control system pushrod, including (but not limited to) cracking, corrosion, and indications of fatigue, interference, or other signs of damage, on Remos GX airplanes. The ACS results from an incident in which an aircraft was substantially damaged during a forced landing after the pilot lost pitch control.
Information submitted should include the make, model, and registration of any aircraft on which they are installed and include a description of any abnormality, including the location and photographs, inspection techniques that are recommended to locate the abnormality, the time in service of the involved part, and any other information that may assist in their evaluation of this issue.
Additional information is available in the ACS, including the NTSB preliminary report and the Remos safety alert containing photographs and descriptions of the elevator control rod and separation.
The FAA uses the airworthiness concern sheet to communicate and coordinate potential airworthiness concerns with the industry and to gather information about specific issues before they reach the level of required airworthiness actions. EAA, along with other associations and type clubs, disseminates the voluntary ACS as a means to help the FAA gather information and to better understand any mitigating circumstances surrounding each particular issue.
