Welcome, Jeff Seaborn

March 2019 - On behalf of your EAA Canadian Council I’d like to welcome Jeff Seaborn, EAA 793688, as our new chair. Jeff has a long history of restoration and construction of a number of aircraft, starting as a child helping his father. You can read Jeff’s introductory message in this issue. Jeff has been a member of the council for some time now, and we’d like to welcome him to his new role. Of course I’d like to echo his sentiments and words of gratitude for the many years of service by Jack Dueck, EAA Lifetime 337912, in the role.
Montreal’s Chapter 266 has been offering a VariViggen project for free collection for anyone willing to take on the challenge. Named after the Swedish Saab 37 Viggen fighter aircraft, which served as a partial design inspiration for Burt Rutan, the VariViggen is a tandem two-seat, wood and fiberglass aircraft. If you’d like to become the owner of this project, you can contact Gaston Girard at 438-495-5253. The project is 60 percent complete. If you’re interested in this fascinating early Rutan pusher design, you might be able to make a head start on making it your own.
One of our readers suggested we contact Canadian aviation museums to see if they wanted to send articles to be published in Bits and Pieces, and we proudly feature the first of these from the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum. Thanks to Mark Peapell for sending the article and some great pictures.
Many Canadian EAA chapters produce a newsletter. Two of them regularly send me their latest issue. If there are readers out there who also produce newsletters, we would be delighted if you would add us to your circulation list.
We’ll be attending the SUN ’n FUN International Fly-In & Expo, in Lakeland, Florida, in early April. It’s a great way to kick off the flying season. If you’re going to be there with a Canadian theme, we’d love to hear from you.
