EAA Honours Winnipeg's Own Joyce Stoyka

By Ian Brown

August 2019 - Joyce Stoyka, stalwart of Lyncrest Airport and Winnipeg's Chapter 63, was honoured with an award at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019. Sean D. Tucker is the Young Eagles co-chair as well as being a legendary aerobatic air show performer. He and Brian O'Lena, manager of the Young Eagles and Eagle Flights programs, presented Joyce with an Outstanding Chapter Coordinator Award, reserved for the top Young Eagles coordinator. Joyce told me they regularly get more than 100 Young Eagles to show up, and they manage to get them all in a plane one way or another.

Joyce also volunteers at EAA AirVenture every year along with her husband, Tom. They organize the camping for their whole chapter and "hangers-on," like several members of the EAA Canada Council. She has also been involved in the new Young Eagles online registration system. Joyce said she would like to acknowledge the amazing pilots of Chapter 63 who make its Young Eagles events so successful.
