The Maple Leaf Flies at AirVenture 2025
Raquel Lincoln, EAA Lifetime 1306824, Chair, EAA Canadian Council, Winnipeg, Manitoba
I'm writing this after a fun, Sunday-night welcome BBQ with fellow Canadians at AirVenture 2025 in Oshkosh. Volunteers are the heartbeat of AirVenture, and our Canadian representation is no different. Those of us on the EAA Canadian Council volunteer our time throughout the year to plan and organize for AirVenture, as well as advocate for aviation in Canada. Several others pitch in to help it all come together. I'm really grateful to be part of a group that is so passionate about Canada's aviation community, that they are here to proudly fly the maple leaf, despite strong headwinds.
During the week, we had Canadians presenting on how to fly to and from Canada, aviation museums in Canada, how to build an engine, backcountry flying and custom building in Canada, and the Alberta Air Tour. I am impressed with the commitment EAA continues to make in supporting our Canadian membership with our new air-conditioned venue, our group camping areas, our famous Taste of Canadian Hospitality Ice Cream Social, and our complimentary Canadian breakfast, with this year's featured guests the Northern Stars Aero Team. On behalf of the EAA Canadian Council, I thank you for the opportunity to meet many of you in person.
I know there are many Canadian aviation issues that we need to unite and take a stand on. We have lost too many airports already, and several more are under threat. Communication towers are popping up on approach paths, requirements for ADS-B loom, and aircraft insurance premiums continue to rise. Your voice is important. Let us know about these issues that threaten the future of aviation in Canada. Email me at chair.eaacc@gmail.com.
