EAA Joins Group Requesting Piper AD Extension

January 10, 2019 - EAA has joined Piper Aircraft, Inc., AOPA, GAMA, and others in requesting a 45-day extension of the comment period for the proposed airworthiness directive (AD) on Piper PA-28 and PA-32 series wing spars. The current 45-day comment period ends February 4.

In justifying the request for extension, EAA cited the timing of the AD’s release just prior to the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the complex and unique nature of the AD, the large number of aircraft and user groups affected, and the current government shutdown.

“The public comment period is an essential step in the rulemaking process,” said Tom Charpentier, EAA government relations director. “The FAA is asking the community to provide constructive feedback to this proposal, and it is important that interested parties have adequate time to thoroughly evaluate the proposed AD and consider all of its potential effects.”

Members interested in commenting can submit written feedback to the federal docket.
