EAA Advocates for Manned Flight at UAST Meeting

June 21, 2018 - Representatives of the EAA Advocacy and Safety staff spoke on behalf of EAA members in a discussion of unmanned aerial system (UAS) safety in Washington, D.C. last week. . As a participant in the Unmanned Aircraft Safety Team (UAST), EAA is working with the FAA, various UAS manufacturers and operators, manned flight organizations, and other aviation industry leaders to ensure that the unmanned aircraft integration process is safe for all.

During the recent UAST meeting, EAA served on the Aircraft Sightings Safety Enhancement Committee, which is tasked with developing standards and methods for reporting airborne encounters with UAS.

EAA attends UAST meetings on behalf of its members, who carry on a legacy of safe operation in the National Airspace System that reaches back more than a century.

EAA’s guiding principles to UAS integration are that the safety of manned flight must be ensured, no additional operating restrictions can be placed on manned aircraft, and no new equipment mandates may be promulgated to support UAS integration.
