2017 EAA Aircraft Sweepstakes Winner Selected

October 5, 2017 - Roy Schalk, EAA 853982, was recently selected as the grand prize winner of the 2017 EAA Aircraft Sweepstakes Van’s RV-12.

Roy, who’s been coming to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh for the past five years, usually enters the sweepstakes, but this was the first time he’s ever won a prize.

When notified that he had been selected as the grand prize winner, Roy was in a state of disbelief.

“I didn’t check my messages, apparently people called during the day (to notify me),” Roy said. “I could hardly believe it, I’d never won anything before.”

Roy, a resident of Foster, Kentucky, currently flies a Cessna 182, is in the process of building a Van’s RV-8, and is looking forward to flying his new RV-12 in the near future.

“I’m a huge fan of Van’s products,” he said. “I’m really excited about flying it. I’m looking to make a place to land it on my farm. The call (notifying me) was amazing. I probably sounded stupid. I’d never won anything. I thought, ‘Is this a scam?’ It’s just surreal.”
