November 17, 2016 - The story of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress named Doc is well known to EAA members and other aviation enthusiasts, but it hadn’t necessarily gotten much mainstream media attention until a few days ago. On Sunday, November 13, the popular television news program CBS Sunday Morning aired a nearly eight-minute segment about the big bomber. The piece is thoughtful and even poignant at times, touching on the airplane’s history, from its production in 1945, through its ignominious six decades languishing in the desert and, finally, the triumphant first flight in July after more than 16 years of restoration work. CBS Sunday Morning reaches an average of nearly 6 million viewers each week, a sizable audience for a story that reflects the best of the warbird and restoration community.
