EAA Advocacy Staff Talks Policy with FAA in DC Meetings

December 3, 2015 - While many EAA members were preparing their Thanksgiving feasts or traveling to see friends and family, EAA staff did a little holiday travel of its own last week to FAA headquarters. Vice President of Advocacy and Safety Sean Elliott visited with several FAA headquarters departments last Tuesday and spoke with them about several regulatory policy issues, including experimental aircraft overflying sporting events, the certification of experimental aircraft, and expanding the availability of low mass, high drag aircraft for sport pilot training.

While not garnering the attention of major initiatives such as reforming the third-class medical certificate, progress on these and other regulatory issues is nonetheless important to keeping and expanding the freedoms EAA members have to fly.

“It was a short trip, but very productive,” Elliott said when he returned to Oshkosh. “In order to effectively advocate on behalf of our members it is important to have good relationships with the decision makers in Washington, and this visit is one of several myself and our staff make throughout the year.”
