Retired NYPD Chief Pilot and Emergency Management Specialist to speak for EAA’s annual Sept. 11 memorial program

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (September 2, 2026) — A retired NYPD Chief Pilot who captured some of the first live broadcast footage of the 9/11 attacks and an Emergency Management Specialist who helped New York City recover in the aftermath will be the featured speakers at the EAA Aviation Museum’s annual 9/11 memorial presentation on Friday, September 11, at 7 p.m. in the EAA museum’s Founder’s Wing.

Ken Solosky is a retired 21-year veteran of the New York Police Department, who served as a lieutenant, chief pilot, and director of training. On 9/11 he coordinated the aviation response between several different units and, while flying helicopters himself that day, captured video and photos that became the primary news feed of the attacks in real-time that were used by broadcasts worldwide.

Joining Solosky will be Dr. Mike Fagel, who served more than 100 days with FDNY following the attack after being assigned there by the U.S. Department of Justice. Fagel helped develop plans to keep the fire department operational despite heavy personnel and equipment losses on 9/11.

In previous programs, EAA has featured a diverse group of individuals ranging from military pilots to air traffic controllers who were part of the collective response to the 9/11 attacks. EAA’s purpose for the annual 9/11 program is to highlight the heroism on display by thousands of people on that day and immediately afterward.

The September 11 presentation is open to everyone. It is free to EAA members, as well as active military members, law enforcement/public safety personnel, and first responders. Admission is just $5 for all others.
