B-58 Hustler pilot is featured speaker for October’s EAA Aviation Adventure Speaker Series

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wisconsin — (October 13, 2022) — Charlie Hooker, a B-58 Hustler pilot, is this month’s featured speaker as part of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s Aviation Adventure Speaker Series on Thursday, October 20 at the EAA Aviation Museum.

Hooker’s presentation will begin at 7 p.m. in the Founder’s Wing within the museum. Admission is free for EAA members and youths 5 and under, and $5 for nonmembers.

Hooker served in the United States Air Force in the early 1960s as part of the 65th Bomb Squadron within the Strategic Air Command (SAC). SAC was in charge of handling the country’s nuclear delivery platforms from 1946-1992. Hooker will share his experiences flying the B-58 on missions during his service.

The Convair B-58 Hustler is a bomber that was active from 1960-1970. The aircraft was designed to reach high altitudes and speeds to avoid Soviet interceptors. The B-58 is capable of reaching a top speed of Mach 2, a first for operational bombers at the time of introduction. Lieutenant Colonel Henry J. Deutschendorf Sr., father of legendary singer John Denver, held several speed records as a B-58 pilot.
