Dr. Gregory Pinnell Receives FAA Safety Award

January 31, 2013 - EAA's Aeromedical Advisory Council member Dr. Gregory Pinnell, M.D., received the Michigan 2012 FAA Safety Team Representative of the Year Award at last week's Great Lakes International Aviation Conference.

The award was presented by the FAA Flight Standards District Offices of Michigan for his significant contributions to aviation safety.

Dr. Pinnell is a senior AME and board certified family practitioner in a multi-specialty medical center in Saginaw, Michigan. He serves as a senior flight surgeon for the 45th Space Wing, Patrick AFB, United States Air Force Reserve Medical Corps, and frequently supported the space shuttle program. He also currently works medical logistics for the Soyuz Space Program.

As an EAA Aeromedical Advisory Council member, Dr. Pinnell frequently contributes to articles in Sport Aviation as well as provides webinars regarding a variety of aeromedical topics. He has been guest speaker at many local EAA chapters and has presented multiple forums on aeromedical issues at AirVenture.

Dr. Pinnell is an adjunct professor for Western Michigan University's College of Aviation and teaches aviation physiology. An instrument-rated private pilot, he owns and flies a Piper Cherokee Six.
