Scholarships for Canadians

By Ian Brown, Editor

October 2020 – How many of you knew that the scholarship programs offered by EAA were open to Canadians? As well as our own EAA Canada scholarship granting charity (new website to be opened shortly) there are several other scholarships available for young aviators in different stages of their training through our international organization based in Oshkosh. The scholarships range from $500 to $10,000 USD and can be for anything from an introduction to aviation to the final stages prior to entry into a career as a commercial pilot. Each scholarship has a different set of parameters including start date, scope, and purpose. They are not just restricted to future pilots either.

CURRENT OPEN CYCLES:

September 1, 2020 – November 1, 2020: Flight Training Scholarships* (for those starting flight training Jan. 1 – June 30)

Flight training scholarships are open to Canadians and despite what you may have read can be used for flight training in the US or in Canada.

Post secondary scholarships are also available to get started on a variety of aviation related occupations.

Ray Aviation scholarships are available to Canadians for use in Canadian aviation programs but must be applied for through a Canadian chapter. If you know of a youngster that is interested, encourage them to inquire whether your local chapter supports the Ray Aviation Scholarship program.

Canadians can apply for the Air Academy Camperships which allow the winner to benefit from an introduction to the world of aviation through these camps held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. At the present time there are 34 such scholarships available to applicants. Most of these scholarships are memorial funds in the name of the aviator who donated them, and they amount to at least $500 USD each.
