As we approach autumn, I hope you’ll have the opportunity to get some flights in. I love flying in the fall – viewing the progress of harvest and witnessing the vibrant colours of our Canadian foliage.

Thank you for completing our survey regarding aircraft insurance. This feedback will be invaluable to EAA as it embarks on a revamp of its insurance package to Canadians, known as C-Plan. I thought you might find the main points very interesting:

The vast majority of respondents indicated they currently do not have C-Plan as their insurance provider. The main reasons?

  1. They didn’t know it existed.
  2. When seeking a quote, a response from the broker took way too long (at least several weeks) or received no response at all.
  3. The quote provided was drastically higher than the rate quoted through another plan.

What Canadian aviators believe is important for C-Plan to have:

  1. The lowest premium in Canada.
  2. Credit for claims-free history.
  3. Coverage for pilots over age 70.
  4. Liability coverage of more than $1 million.
  5. Option to have a deductible to reduce premium.
  6. Winter storage credit.

We received several responses that indicated they would like to have optional hangar insurance available, with the potential for a premium discount for hangared aircraft.

I’ll keep you posted as insurance discussions progress with EAA. As always, don’t hesitate to contact me if you have anything you wish to discuss.
