Dr. Rachael McClain
Rachael McClain is executive director of the National WASP WWII Museum in Sweetwater, Texas, where she advances the WASP legacy and inspires future leaders. With years of nonprofit and education leadership experience, she is passionate about women’s leadership and expanding opportunities. The Women Airforce Service Pilots trained at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas, becoming the first American women to fly military aircraft. Though grounded in 1944 and denied military status for decades, their legacy reshaped aviation history. Today, that legacy is still unfolding.
This multigenerational panel brings the WASP story into the present through conversation with a volunteer pilot who flies in their honor, a second-generation woman military aviator, and a future aviator from a youth aviation camp. Together, they explore how barriers have evolved, how mentorship sustains the aviation community, and why preserving the WASP story matters to the future of flight.
More than a historical reflection, this forum connects WWII aviation heritage to today’s cockpits and tomorrow’s pilots, inviting the AirVenture community to consider its role in carrying the legacy forward.

She is a CFI, founded a flying club around a Cessna 140, and built an RV-7 with her partner.
Jessica Cox
After a decade of flying, Jessica Cox is known worldwide as the first certified armless pilot in history. Finding a video of her flying an Ercoupe is easy; millions of people have watched the various features or news stories. However, only a few people have seen her fly in person. The reason isn’t just logistics. Flying an Ercoupe with just your feet is hard. Really hard.
Jessica’s reputation as a pilot opens doors around the world. This year Jessica has the opportunity to dial down the difficulty of flying by building a custom-controlled airplane. An airplane like this has never been built before, which is poetically fitting for a pilot like her.
If successful, this custom airplane could serve as a model for other pilots with disabilities to explore or inspire new ideas. Jessica’s reach will expand from 50 miles around her home airport to virtually anywhere in North America. Most importantly, this pilot and airplane duo will be an undeniable reminder that “disability does not mean inability.”

About the Design:
Drawing from this personal connection to aviation, her design embraces the theme of Design-Build-Test using specified navy blue ink. She aimed to highlight the various stages of development through a blueprint-inspired motif. The lines reference the design and build process while also conveying motion and connectivity, reflecting the shared journey of women coming together in aviation.
About Justine:
Justine Boyer, from Georgetown, Texas, is an artist whose life and work are deeply rooted in aviation. She lives on an airpark with her family and their Van’s RV-10. While she has logged approximately 20 hours of flight time herself, aviation is a shared passion in her household — her husband is a pilot and her daughter is nearing her checkride. She is a long-time attendee of EAA AirVenture (often camping by the wing). She also designs and creates aviation themed illustrations on throw blankets, pillows, and socks through Barking Pixel.
