We meticulously maintain our aircraft, we diligently refine our pilot proficiency, we monitor our personal health, and we plan our flights carefully for proper weather conditions. When the topic of insurance comes up most pilots think about aircraft insurance to protect themselves and their family in case someone gets hurt or an aircraft gets damaged, but what are we doing to provide financial security for our family if we are the one who get hurt or dies?

Most standard life insurance policies exclude aviation, with the exception of riding onboard a scheduled airline flight. That’s important especially if you are a pilot. If you do have a traditional life insurance policy with expanded coverage for personal general aviation the majority of those insurance policies still exclude flying anything other than single-engine, fixed wing, standard category airplane.
